NH Senate Contact Tools

2021-22 NH Senate Contact Information

Thank you for contacting your NH State Senator.   Most legislators appreciate hearing from their constituents.  We do our best to have constituents IN THAT LEGISLATOR'S DISTRICT doing the contact.    That's why it's so important that you do your part.   An exception to that rule are communications to standing committees, such as the Election Law & Municipal Affairs Committee, with which we work closely.  When the committee is hearing a Democracy bill, it's OK for anyone no matter where they are in the state, to contact members of the committee.

When contacting your legislator, this is the order of preference:

  1. Calling is the most effective, and the most expedient when a bill is time critical.
  2. Write a postal letter or postcard.   Fewer voters take the time to write, and a hand-written or personally written printed letter is more powerful.
  3. Emails are acceptable, but not as effective.  Often legislators don't get to their emails in a timely fashion, and some, you might be surprised to learn, don't check their legislative emails at all.  Sad, but true.
  4. Form letters/boiler-plate emails are not very effective.   If you do use a model email when writing, please make sure to modify it to make it your own.

When contacting legislators:

ALWAYS be courteous.   Hate and vitriol get us nowhere, and can be damaging to our relationships with legislators. You can be firm, but respectful.

ALWAYS be constructive.   There are enough rock throwers in the world.  Say why your position is the right position without bashing the legislator or the legislator's party.

ALWAYS say Thank You.   No matter your party or philosophy, being a legislator is a hard job.  We always add "Thank you for your service to New Hampshire," in our calls and letters.

Give us Feedback:

If you make contact and have a substantive conversation with a legislator on a Democracy reform bill, we would like your feedback to put in our notes.    Please let Olivia Zink know by email.   Thank you again for your help!   As Granny D said, "Democracy isn't something we HAVE, it's something we DO."
